Can you use someone else’s eye drops?
Eyedrops or ointments that get bacteria in them can easily spread the bacteria to the eye and cause an infection. If the dropper is separate from the bottle and touches the eye, do not put the dropper back in the bottle. Buy a new dropper at a drugstore. Do not use anyone else’s drops or ointment.
Infections may benefit from a prescribed drop; if a bottle of eye drops is shared, the bottle may have been contaminated by the person previously using it. If an eye dropper touches the surface of an eye or lashes, it becomes contaminated. Your friend may be sharing their eye problem with you.
How do you give someone else eye drops?
Administer a drop of the medication onto the closed eyelid in the nasal corner. Ask the patient to open the eye and close it gently once the drug has entered it.

Once the drop is on the eye, do not blink your eye or move it around to spread the drop. Instead, gently close your eyes just once, place the pad of your most sensitive finger at the inside corner of the eyelid by the nose and press gently. Leave the eyelids closed and the finger pressing gently for 2 full minutes.
What is better eye drops or ointment?
